SRGS

Sierra Rock Garden Society

We are a group of gardeners dedicated to exploring the art and science of rock gardening in the Sierra Foothills, as well as learning about new plants.

Rock gardens are gardens composed of plants and flowers that grow well among rocks.  They are often based on low growing and compact flowering perennials and bulbs.  Rock gardens can be built on large slopes or tiny garden beds.  They include open gardens, raised beds, woodland gardens, bog gardens and container gardens. Rock gardening is a great way to garden in the foothills.

Gardening in our climate is always different from gardening elsewhere in the country, and membership in SRGS gives you the benefit of learning from fellow gardeners that have been gardening in the same climate. What works for the rest of the country doesn’t always work here!

The Sierra Rock Garden Society is an official local Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society (NARGS). NARGS encourages and promotes:

♦ The study, cultivation, and conservation of rock garden plants

♦ Interest and knowledge of rock garden design and construction

Benefits of NARGS are many and include an extensive seed exchange, bookstore, slide library, and a library loan service. All NARGS members receive The Rock Garden Quarterly, a premiere journal of rock gardening.

Membership in NARGS is not required for members of the Sierra Rock Garden Society, but it is encouraged.
